Care Hands-The Gambia Foundation, a non-governmental, non-political and non-religious organisation, was launched last on 24 November 2006 at a colourful ceremony held at its headquarters in Tallinding.
Speaking at the launching ceremony, Geraldine Hands, coordinator and initiator of the foundation, said she chose to come to The Gambia to complement the effort of the health department in quality health care delivery as well as render service to the education sector.
In the delivery of quality health care in any country, there is always a healthy work force behind it, she said.
She further said the foundation also aims to assist the poor get free access to health care and education, adding that this would contribute immensely towards the development of the country.
Calling on Gambians in the country to boost the foundation, Geraldine noted that over the 11 years she has been visiting The Gambia, she had brought along many donations which include life boats for guards on the beaches, computers for schools, and wheelchairs and medical equipment for health centres.
In his remarks on the occasion, Mr Pa Abdou Sarr, director of the foundation, said they hope to render quality services through community health activities and support to community health initiative and education.
Mr Sarr however called on the donor community, civil society and the government to help the foundation achieve its aims.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Mr Gibou Faal of Bakau.
