Vidar FC claimed the Bakau league title last Saturday after beating Ron Mango FC in a tightly-competed final.

A lone goal from Saikou Sidibeh in 17th minute separated the two sides until the regulation period expired. Vidar FC arguably dominated Saturday’s match with numerous scoring chances, but were also grateful for some flabby finishings from the Ron Mango side.

Being their first-ever final in their three-year sting in the Bakau nawettan season, Vidar started the game with a brink of enthusiastism. The old Bakau side put up a stunning performance in early 10th minute of the game before breaking the stalemate in the 17th minute, thanks to Saikou Sidibeh’s blistering opener.

Ron Mango reacted to the strained situation. The New Town giants were close to an equaliser in the 29th minute but Mohammadou Bangura’s low-header went off-target. Moments later, Ron Mango’s Ebrima Bojang was again denied by goalkeeper Babanding Sama before the first 45 minutes ended.

Fresh from break, Vidar kept their heads up in a bid to defend the lone goal advantage which also showed numerous poor finishings from the Old Bakau side. On the 48th minute, Saikou had nearly doubled the advantage after collecting a well-weighted pass from Ebrima Manneh.
Two minutes later, Vidar’s Buba Bojang anxiousity would not allow him to change the scoreline. At the 53th minute,, Ron Mango were very close to an equaliser, but Mohammadou Bangura was again denied.
Three minutes later, Vidar’s Ebrima Manneh was apparently astonished to see his low-kick rolled inches from the stand-bar after beating the Ron Mango keeper, Issaha Fofana. Eventually, the 1-0 score line remained unchanged earning Vidar FC their first-ever league title in the Bakau senior nawettan season having won numerous junior titles at junior level.
As champions, Vidar FC received a giant trophy and a cash prize of D10,000, while Ron Mango FC went home with D7,000 as runners up. The league championship was solely sponsored by Western Union and Trust Bank Ltd, whose members of staff also graced the Saturday’s final with their presence.

Meanwhile, the knock-out final between Scan Tours FC and Linguere was in progress at the time of going to press last night.
