The National Scorpions Fan Club has commended their main sponsors for what they referred to as their ‘unflinching support’ towards not only the fan club, but to the development of sports in general.
According to a press release issued by the fan club, The Gambia Telecommunication Limited (Gamtel), and Gambia Cellular Company Ltd (Gamcel) have been very helpful to the national fan club during the past CAF qualifier matches, including their recent trip to Dakar to cheer up the U-17 team.
The release added: “On behalf of our club parents, executive members and the entire fan club members, we wish to extend our sincere gratitude and appreciation to Gamtel and Gamcel for their endless support and usual cooperation towards the fan club.
The club also commended His Excellency, the President of the Republic, Dr Alhagi Yahya Jammeh for air-lifting more than 300 Gambian fans (first in the history) to cheer up the World U-17 Championship finals in Peru 2005.
The release added: “As we prepare for the ‘Road to Congo’ for the African Youth Championship finals in which we would like to give our support to the U-20 side, we appeal to all stakeholders and individuals to emulate the kind and benevolent gesture of President Jammeh.”
In conclusion, the club also commended Vitalait Company, who sponsoring the fans club during the 2005 U-17 Championship in Banjul and their recent sponsors, West African Bronze who assisted them during The Gambia’s U-20 match against Mali. “We will also thank Ashobe Store for providing us with the Red-Blue-Green-White poplin materials”, the release concluded.
