GAA congress Dodou Joof, others re-elected

The congress of the Gambia Athletics Association (GAA) was successfully held last Saturday, September 16th, at the Independence Stadium, Bakau with the re-election of most of the previous members.

After a marathon deliberation, the clubs affiliated to the athletics association maintained Mr Fred Lloyd Evans, who has been the President for the past 15 years, as their leader for another 5-year term while Mr Bai Ndongo Faal, the General Manager of Gamstar was elected the first Vice-President. Mr Edrissa Chico Njie was also elected as the second Vice-President.

Alhagi Dodou Joof, who has been the association’s Secretary-General for the past 8 years, was also unanimously allowed to maintain his position, while Alieu Cham was elected as his assistant. Alhagi Samba AS Mbye and Badou Jasseh were elected the Treasurer and the Auditor, respectively.

Other six members were also co-opted into the new executive council, in addition to the nomination of two other athletes’ representatives (male and female) that were selected by the athletes themselves. Thirteen out of the fifteen affiliated clubs to the athletics association attended the Saturday congress.

Also in attendance was Mr Ebou Joof, the Deputy Permanent Secretary, Department of State for Youth, Sports & Religious Affairs, Mr Omar Sallah, Chairman of National Sports Council, Mr George Gomez, Executive Secretary of Gambia National Olympic Committee, among other dignitaries.
