Reduce commodity prices... Hon Njie urges

Friday, October 12, 2007

Seedy S.K Njie, a nominated member of the National Assembly, has added his voice   for the reduction of commodity prices in the country in the wake of sharp appreciation of the national currency, the Dalasi. This, he said, will enhance the purchasing power of all   Gambians.

Mr Njie, who walked into the Daily Observer offices yesterday, said that the appreciation of the Dalasi, is a course to celebrate, for it will impact positively on commodity prices, thus to the advantage of consumers. “If we could recall back in 2000-2005, when the Dalasi was depreciating and the prices   were skyrocketing day in, day out. So why are they [bussinessmen] not reducing prices to be in line with the reality of the day”

He then paid tribute to President Jammeh and the Central Bank of The Gambia   for putting in measures that helped to strengthen the Dalasi against the major currencies.
