Wednesday, October 17, 2007

Ousman Jatta, widely known by his sobriquet as Rambo, was on Friday released, after 13 months detention.

The Old Bakau Ward Councillor was reportedly picked up by plain clothes security personnel, shortly after the 2006 Presidential elections in September.

Since his disappearance from public glare, relatives and concerned individuals of the Bakau Councillor have scouted various police stations across the country to locate his whereabouts.

However, he was lately spotted at Sare Ngai Police Station in Upper River Region, by officials of the Amnesty International, who reportedly arrived in the country on October 2 for a workshop on human rights.

The two officials, who were identified as Tania Bernath and Basir Ameen Ayodele, were subsequently arrested and questioned by the security before they were released.

Mr Jatta’s discovery then arose the attention of the relevant authorities, who finally released him. Mr Jatta was escorted to his family in Bakau by his relatives and well-wishers.
