The executive members of the Young Journalists Association (YJA) will embark on a familiarisation tour of media houses next week. The aim of the tour is to brief the relevant authorities and media chiefs on the association’s objectives and programme of activities.
Speaking in an interview with the Young Observer, Demba Kandeh, secretary general of YJA and a reporter at Today newspaper, said the association also expects to meet the Secretary of Sate for Communication Information Technology, Neneh Macdouall-Gaye, the Gambia Press Union President, Madi Ceesay, and the managing directors of the different newspapers, and radio stations in the country. He added that they will also pay a courtesy call on the director general of the GRTS.
According to him, this exercise will go a long way towards laying a strong foundation for with the Gambian media establishment.
Confirming that the association will soon be launched, Mr Kandeh said they will also plan similar engagements with other stakeholders, including NGOs.
