Official sources have intimated that Mr. Alieu Mboge, the recently appointed interim Chairman of Banjul City Council, has been appointed as The Gambia’s ambassador to the United Arab Emirates. Mr. Mboge has vast experience in administration and financial matters.
He started his career with Elder Dempster, a maritime company, from 1967 to 1972. From 1972 to 1978 he worked at the Gambia Ports Authority as Finance Director and deputy Managing Director. Mboge was appointed Managing Director of the then State Pensions Board, now SSHFC, from 1978 to 1980. He was afterwards redeployed to NTC where he served for 10 years, ands he retired in 1990,after which he established his own business.
Mr Mboge was a one-time Chairman of the boards of GPA and Senegambia Beach Hotel.
Asked about his appointment as interim Chairman of BCC since he took over three weeks ago, he told this paper that the appointment is “very challenging, demanding,” adding: “We will do our best to put things right in all areas of operations of Albert Market, the cleansing services, Banjul Streets and the lighting system.”
Mr. Mboge will continue to serve as BCC Interim Chairman till January after the Local Council Elections, my sources added.
