GAF committed to nation’s health

Some members of the Gambia Armed Forces (GAF), over the weekend embarked on a massive clean-up exercise, locally known as ‘Set- Settal’ within the premises of  Fajara Barracks, in Bakau.

The exercise, initiated by President Yahya Jammeh, Commander-in-Chief of the Gambia Armed Forces (GAF), was meant to pave the way for the eradication of malaria cases in the country. 

 Speaking at the clean-up exercise, Captain Modou Lamin Bojang, Commander of the Fajara Barracks, described the initiative as part of the normal routines in Fajara Barracks.
He added that GAF is set to play a key role in order to maintain an healthy environment. “If you join the Army in the dormetries you found every where clean like nobody touches those beds”, he said.

According to him, GAF was also very instrumental in making the Royal Victoria Teaching Hospital Sanitorium a good place to be.
In addition to this impressive demonstration of magnanimity, he indicated that the Soldiers Wife Association has joined the move by making Fajara Barracks environmentally-friendly.
He then urged all Gambians, irrespective of their political affiliations, to participate actively in Operation Clean the Nation.

For Captain Wally Nyang, ‘‘the exercise is very unique and important not only in the Army, but it is a national issue,  initiated by President Jammeh who put health as his first priority”.

He commended the men and women of the Gambia Armed Forces for their commitment to national activities.
In a similar vein, 2nd Lieutenant Ousman Bah of the Gambia Tourist Guard re-echoed similar sentiments at the exercise and spoke on the need for maintaining such exercise in the country.

 Other speakers  included WO2 Modou Demba,  Regimental Sergeant Major of Fajara Barracks.
