Four Swedish coaches arrived in Banjul Tuesday as part of a four-year country exchange programme between The Gambia Football Coaches association and Gambiagrupperner in Sweden. The programme is aims to develop and capacitate Gambian coaches.
At a press briefing held at the independence Stadium on Tuesday, Ebou Faye, Secretary General of the Gambia Football Coaches Association, said the visit of their Swedish counterparts is meant to train Gambian coaches and physical education teachers, both male and female.
He said during the training coaches will be trained on both theoretical and practical aspects of coaching.
He said during their stay they will visit the Department of State for Youth and Sports, Education and The Gambia Football Association secretariat.
CAJ HJELM leader of the group said the exchange programme will develop the skill-level of Gambian coaches.
Abdou Salaam Jammeh, acting Secretary General of the Gambia Football Association, said there is a long history between The Gambia and Sweden adding that The Gambia has benefited a lot from Sweden especially in the area of capacity building. He cited the Meridien project between The Gambia Football Association and Sweden as an example.
He commended former national player Pa Musa Fofana for facilitating the twinning programme between the two countries.
He pointed out that Gambian football has developed immensely and called on the coaches to take the course seriously.
For his part Pa Musa Fofana, now coaching in Sweden, said they will do everything possible to make sure that the Gambian coaches are well equipped.
Other speakers at the occasion included, Anita Jonasson, Maria Hagfalf woss and Pa Suwareh Faye.
It will be recalled that four Gambian coaches recently returned from Sweden as part of the exchange programme.
