Brufut Marathon Run Heats Up

The 2007 annual Brufut Marathon aimed at assisting the needy, is scheduled to take place on Saturday, December 8, 2007.

However, this year’s marathon is dedicated to young people who risk their lives in undertaking risky and illegal journeys in search of greener pasture.

“Run against Illegal Migration” is the theme of the Marathon” and the events are as follows: 24 km cycling race will commence from July 22 Square via Stink Corner and MRC road, to Brufut; and 15Km run from Shell/Kairaba Traffic Lights to Brufut.  8 km race for females is to take off from Brusubu roundabout to Brufut. All other races are to take place in Brufut proper.

Trophies, medals, cash prizes, and certificates will be awarded to participants.

Participants will also benefit from raffle tickets, which can enable them to win a bag of rice.

As part of the event, stakeholders namely; Taf Holding limited, Friends of the Gambia Association of UK (FROGS) and Mr and Mrs John Carter, sponsors of the Tallinding Project, made a handsome donation of D75, 000, D16, 000 and £200 respectively as contribution.
