Five Senegalese nationals, Serign Ngum, Pap Drammeh, Saidou Cham, Yusu Jobe and Alieu Cham, were on Wednesday remanded at the State Central Prison at Mile 2, after pleading not guilty to the charges of being in possession of firearms, without lawful authority.
The five men appeared before Magistrate Pa Harry Jammeh of Kanifing Magistrates’ Court. Upon their plea of not guilty to the charges preferred against them, Magistrate Jammeh ordered that the five accused persons be remanded in custody until February 28.
He added that the accused persons are Senegalese, who entered The Gambia’s territorial waters with illegal arms. He therefore, remanded them in order to enable the police to conduct their investigations.
According to the particulars of the offense, the five accused persons on 6th February, 2007, in the territorial waters of Bakau, had in their possession three AK 47 rifles, one magazine with live rounds of ammunitions, 93 millimeters caliber and a magazine with seven live rounds of ammunition, and 7.62 millimeters caliber.
On count two, they were charged for being in possession of three AK rifles and life ammunitions without license.
