Kachikally Crocodile Pool, BCYA Carry out Cleansing Exercise

Tuesday, June 12, 2007

The management of Kachikally Crocodile Pool, in collaboration with the Bill Clinton Youth Association (BCYA), on Saturday conducted a massive cleansing exercise within the Kachikally area and its surroundings.

The exercise was in line with the monthly operation-clean-the-nation, and it covered vast areas of decayed rubbish, stinky waters and dirt-filled gutters within Kachikally and its surroundings.

Speaking to partakers of the exercise, the Manager of Kachikally Crocodile Pool, Mr. Douso Bojang, thanked the organisers for coming up with the idea of cleaning the environment, especially the gutters, which have blocked completely with heaps of stinky and diseased-ridden stench.

According to him, the dirt in the gutters poses great danger to the health of residents of the area and serves as eyesore to visitors, particularly the tourists who frequently visit the crocodile pool.

“The Gambia Tourism Authority has resolved to work on the gutters in the interest of developing tourism in The Gambia,” Mr. Bojang said, adding that cleaning the environment is not the responsibility of the government alone but that of all and sundry, as it’s a matter of national responsibility and of protecting one’s health

Kawsu Jaiteh, the coordinator of the BCYA, said his organisation was established in 1999 to work to achieve environmental sanitation and promote peace and unity in The Gambia.
