Point Reporter Returns from Libya

Saturday, June 30, 2007

Mr. Nfamara Jawneh, a reporter and Youth Forum columnist of The Point newspaper, returned home on Tuesday after attending an international conference on African Unity in the Libyan capital, Tripoli.

Speaking to this reporter shortly after his arrival, Mr. Jawneh paid homage to the acting Libyan Ambassador in The Gambia, H.E. Taher S. Daloub, for facilitating his visit.

He described the People’s Great Libya Arab Jamahiriya as a very great country, and said he was impressed with the infrastructure and agricultural development in the North African country, thanks to her mineral resources under the dynamic leadership of the revolutionary leader Brother Muammar Qathafi.

"I met with colleagues all over Africa and even beyond, with whom I have shared experience," he said, while describing the trip as very educative.
Mr. Jawneh also thanked Imam Tafsir Gaye and Mr. Mumodou Fayinkeh, president of the Federation of the UNESCO clubs and centres in The Gambia, for their care and kindness to him during the trip.
He also thanked the Libyan people for their hospitality and warm welcome.

He described the theme of the conference, which was about the establishment of a United States of Africa under one government, as very interesting and challenging.
"It is possible to achieve it, as it took the Europeans several years to materialize their dream of having a European Union," he reasoned.

Mr. Jawneh finally thanked the management and staff of The Point for their support and cooperation.
