The General Manager of Yiriwa Development Radio, Pa Modou Bojang, alongside Ebrima K Touray, a producer at Yiriwa FM, are invited to attend the WOMAD festival – World of Arts and Dance Festival slated to take place from 27 to 29 July at Charlton Park, UK.

This is the first time the Gambian media is being invited to attend the event to provide coverage. Previously, artists from Gambia used to attend the programme.

“WOMAD Charlton Park will welcome an audience of 20, 0000 and will feature seven stages and workshop areas, including a children’s village, many more activities and festival features, in the idyllic environment of Charlton’s open lawns and rolling fields,” says the letter sent to Yiriwa Development Radio announcing their invitation to the event.

Speaking to The Point, yesterday, the elated Yiriwa FM boss said that his institution is very proud and happy to be invited to represent The Gambia at WOMAD festival.

He said: “This is a challenge and it would give more opportunity to Gambian media to gain international exposure. And we will definitely be the Gambia’s goodwill ambassadors once we are there.

“We are very thankful to the organising committee to have registered my radio and send us a full ticket accrediting us for the festival.
“Our invitation came to us as a complete surprise because I have never thought that one day we will take part in such a global festival like WOMAD”.
