As General Elections Near

Some Sierra Leoneans resident in The Gambia have spoken to The Point on their conception of the prospects of the top three candidates in the elections set to take place tomorrow. In his exposition on the impending election, Abu Bakarr Kamara contended: “SLPP has failed the country woefully. It is going to be difficult for them this time round.”

Michael Fakonda, a staunch SLPP member charged that Charles Margai is an angry man who is bent on finding ways to get SLPP, his father’s party, out of power for him to lead APC.
The top three candidates, according to their other compatriots, are Solomon Berewa for the SLPP, the ruling party, Ernest Bai Koroma for the APC, the main opposition party, and Charles F. Margai, a lawyer by profession and son of the late Albert Margai, the then Prime Minister of Sierra Leone.

According to other supporters the challenge is going to be between Solomon Berewa and Ernest Bai Koroma. But some SLPP Supporters in The Gambia are of the conviction that APC will not win the presidential election because they believe that they were responsible for corrupting the country in a one party state.
Hannah Mustapha, another SLPP member, said: “Ernest Koroma should go and study more on Business and Insurance and forget about Politics.”

All the concerned Sierra Leoneans who spoke to The Point however shared the common belief that the country will successfully emerge from the frenzy of the electioneering in peace. They prayed for violence- free election, citing that of The Gambia as an inspiration.
