Interior FC Claim Second Division Title

Thursday, August 23, 2007

Just exactly 12 months after been relegated to the second Division, Interior Football Club, on Saturday claimed the 2006/07 Gambia Football Association Second division League title, giving them automatic promotion to the first Division.

The Interior Boys, under the guidance of Coach Ebrima Manneh, defeated Kaira Silo 2-0 in their last game played on Saturday at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.

Despite being the fact that this year’s Second Division league featured a demonstration of equal contenders with teams like Brikama United, Samger and Interior, proving to be potential winners and promotion to first division, Interior FC never looked back.

With a single point behind Brikama United before the final matches on Saturday, 33-32, Interior FC bounced back from second position to claim the title when Brikama United, at 33 points, lost 3-2 in the crucial game against Ham Ham the same day.

However with 35 points in 18 matches, Interior F.C would play in the top flight next season.

They would be joined by Brikama United, who, despite losing to Ham Ham, clinched the second place on the final table.

They collected 33 points together with Samger FC but the Brikama Boys have a better goal difference of +1.

Interior FC and Brikama United would replace Seaview and Steve Biko in the first division next season.

Bottoms placed Jambanjelly together with Young Africans are relegated to the third division.
