The Gambia Under 20, thrashed their Senegalese counterparts 3-1 in an international friendly match on Sunday at the Independence Stadium, Bakau.
Sait Matty-Africell forward, Cherno Njie, opened the scoring as early as 5th minute, before making it a brace ten minutes later.
Ports Authority’s gifted Sanna Nyassi put the tie beyond repair when he struck in a weighted volley to make it 3-0. The visitors were left to chase shadows before the tie eventually went Gambia’s way.
Italian coach Rubinacci was using the friendly as a warm-up to Gambia’s June 28th home tie against Mauritania in the qualifier of the 2009 African Under Under 20 Championships finals to be hosted in Rwanda.
Speaking to journalists shortly after the game, the Italian said the impressive result is a result of their hard work at the training grounds. He said victory was no surprise, noting “we have been working tirelessly to equip the players in all aspects of football.”
Rubinacci gave assurances of hundred percent victory when the Gambia take on Mauritania next weekend in their bid for a place in the Rwanda finals.
