The body of Gambian veteran Sport Journalist, Momodou Manneh alias Bro, who passed away two weeks ago in the United Kingdom, was finally laid to rest last Saturday November 11 at the Dippakunda Cemetery.
Thousand of sympathisers from all work of life ranging from Religious leaders, politicians, prominent sports administrators and journalists, converged at the Dippakunda Central Mosque to offer their last prayers to one of the must dedicated journalist in the Country.
Like at the Central Mosque, the Family Compound in Serekunda attracted sympathisers as early as 7am awaiting the arrival of the body from the mortuary of the Royal Victoria Teaching Hospital in Banjul, where the body was kept after being flown from the United Kingdom a day before.
Paying Tribute to the Late Momodou Manneh, the Caliph of Kerr Mama in Upper Nuimi Alhaji Amadou Jallow said that the Late Momodou Manneh was a pure Muslim who has dedicated his life to Islam.
He added that Manneh was very caring and supportive to his Family.
Baba Leigh, Imam of Kanifing Housing Estate Mosque, said that he knew the Manneh Family so many years now and described them as Family attached to Islam.
He added that the Late Momodou Manneh was a good citizen who contributed a lot in the development of his family and the nation as a whole.
Alhagie Gabbi Sosseh, Former GFA President said that he knew the Late Momodou Manneh since the late70’s when they founded a football club called Mass Sosseh FC.
“He was some body who always want to leave with his own efforts,” said Mr Sosseh.
He added that Late Momodou Manneh has contributed a lot to the development of sports in the Gambia and the sporting fraternity would feel his departure.
Ousman Joof, a Gambian in the United Kingdom, who escorted the body of the Late Momodou Manneh to the Gambia, said Mr. Manneh is the real son of the Gambia who always preached for the development of the country.
He thanked Gambians in the UK specially Assan Badjan, for doing very thing they can to see the body of Mr. Manneh being evacuated to the Gambia.
He appealed for more prayers for Gambians in the Diaspora, whose ultimate aim is to develop the country.
Moses Ndene Sport Journalist and one time Manneh”s co-presenter at Radio One FM described the Late Momodou Manneh as a brother ,who has sacrificed his time and life to the development of the Country specially sports.
He added that his departure is a great lose to the Country.
Abdulie Manneh, Brother to the decease, thanked very body for expressing their sympathy for the past weeks and Gambians in UK for their support.
The Late Momodou Manneh was born in 1952 he left behind a wife and Four children: two girls and two boys.
