According to the Chairperson of Gambia National Olympic Committee Women in Sports Committee, Beatrice Allen, today’s Women solidarity March would end with a presentation of petition for equal opportunities for women in the field of Sports to Her Excellency the Vice President and Secretary of State for Women Affairs, Dr Aja Isatou Njie-Saidy.

Ms Allen, who is also a member of the International Olympic Committee [IOC] Women in Sports Commission, said that the main objective of the march is to bring into focus the importance of the participation of women in sports as a means of keeping fit and mainstreaming women in the decision making process.

The March is expected to be attended by women from all over the country.

It could be noted that the Solidarity march came only five days after a national Forum on Women in Sports where recommendations were outlined by the participants to form part of the new policy on the full involvement and participation of women in sports.
