The 2006 Nawettan league of Kerr Mama in Upper Niumi reached the semi-finals over the weekend after the completion of the group stage matches.
The tournament is organised by Kerr Mama Sports Committee [KMSC] and sponsored by Babucarr Jallow, a Gambian FIFA referee, resident in the United States of America.
In an interview with Pointsports the Chairman of Kerr Mama Sports Committee Bai Dudou Jallow said that five teams took part in the championship.
“We played the tournament in a league format and at the end of the first round the first four teams booked their place in the semi-finals,” Bai Dudou said.
He added that at the end of the group matches, Wallidan of Fass Saho came first with 6 points and 5 goals followed by Pakau Saloum with 6 points and 3 goals and Mass Sosseh of Kerr Mama collected 4 points with one goal, Samy come out Fourth with 3 points and 2 goals and Kahel closed the table with 3 points and one goal.
Mr Jallow added that the semi-finals are scheduled for this weekend at the Alhagie Gabbi Sosseh Mini-stadium in Kerr Mama.
The first semi-final would be on Friday 24th November 2006 between Wallidan of Fass Saho and Samy FC.
Mass Sosseh of Kerr Mama would be battling with Pakau Saloum in the second semi-final on Saturday 25th November 2006.
He revealed that the winner of the championship would be awarded a giant trophy and a cash prize of D8,000 while the first runner up would receive D5,000. A consolation prize of D3,000 would go to the third place winner.
