Gambia U-20 Play Nigeria in Mid December

Wednesday, November 29, 2006
The planned International friendly match, between the Gambia National U-20 team and their Nigerian counterparts, is slated for mid December in Banjul.

According to the President of the Gambia Football Association, Seedy Kinteh , the Nigerian Football Association would like the game to be played on Saturday December 16th, 2006 but looking at the programme schedule of the Independence Stadium, it seems that the proposed date would not be possible.

Mr Kinteh revealed that the inauguration ceremony of H.E. President Yahya Jammeh is slated for Friday 16th December 2006 at the Independence Stadium and according to the organisers it would be difficult for them to clear the stadium before the following day Saturday.

GFA Boss pointed out that they have communicated to the Nigeria Football Association of the situation on the grounds, proposing to them to push the game to Sunday 17th December 2006 and they are expecting a reply from them before the end of this week.

It could be noted that both Nigeria and the Gambia are qualified for the finals of the 15th edition of the African Youth Championship to be held in Congo from the 20th January to the 3rd February 2007.

The Gambia is in group A along side the Host Congo, Burkina Faso and Cote d’Ivoire. Nigeria, the defending champions, is in-group B with Zambia, Egypt and Cameroon.
