Amie Cherry: Into Music By Constellation of Factors, Character

Tuesday, November 7, 2006
A beautiful constellation of factors and character are undoubtedly what make Amie Cherry what she is.

The consummate musician, extremely outgoing advertisement consultant and the diva who reigned for three uninterrupted years need no persuasion to convince music lovers that she was not into music by accident.

Amie Cherry was born in a celebrated family of griots. It was at the tender age of eight when a classroom teacher heard her singing in their those informal singing sessions in school and straightaway recommended her for the school choir.

Born in the island city of Banjul, Amie was shot into prominence in 1997 when she joined forces with Pencha B crew. Those were Amie’s hay-days but having taken a critical appraisal of the diva’s musical career, there is every likelihood that she may die almost a forgotten musician .She has not been reticent about her present state of predicament when Momodou Justice Darboe and Alhagie Mbye caught up with her. She encapsulated it in a few statements: ”We are in dire need of financial support to actualise our dreams of achieving the status of musicians of world renown.”
