President Jammeh Promises U-20 US$1 Million, Ferry Fans to Congo

Gambia National U-20 participation to the African Youth Championship in Congo has received a big boost with a promise made by President Jammeh yesterday that come February 3rd 2007 if they emerge victorious he would give them one million Dollars.

President Jammeh made this promise yesterday at State House when the team bade him farewell before leaving for Congo last night.

He called on the team to maintain discipline and hard work in the group.

“I would give you one million Dollars if you bring the Cup in Banjul” he told the players. President Jammeh further donated US $9900 for their feeding during the championship.

He then reassured the players that they would not be lonely in Congo as he would be ferrying 150 fans to cheer them up.

He wished the boys all the best and promised them that he would protect them like his own life.

He called on the Secretary of State for Youth, Sports and religious Affairs Sheikh Omar Faye to coordinate the lodging and air tickets for the fans.

He revealed that out of the 150 fans 10 should be sports Journalists.

The ceremony was attended by Secretaries of State, GFA officials, players and coaches of the U-20 team as well as Journalists.
