Gambia to Host International Islamic Congress

The Federation of Jamhiatou Ansarudeen, the Gambia chapter has concluded all arrangements to organize a two-day international Islamic congress from 2 to 3 November 2007 at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.

The high profile Islamic gathering which is expected to draw participants from across the continent including eighty sisters’ federations in the sub-region is geared towards propagating the Islamic religion as well as the enhancing social cohesion.

Speaking at a consultative meeting held in Banjul last Wednesday, Mr Alasan Jagne, and the Secretary General of the Federation said that the objective of the international Islamic congress is to review the progress made by the Federation in the world, adding that the event will also serve as a unique opportunity to promote African integration.

Mr Jagne further highlighted that the congress will   be used to bolster the efforts of governments in promoting peace, progress and prosperity in the African continent.

For his part, Baboucarr Cham, General Manager of City Limits Radio noted that the importance of congress cannot be over emphasized, elucidating that the congress will discuss many important issues affecting the Islamic Ummah. He therefore urged all and sundry to attend the event.
