Kambengo Foundation rehabilitates solar power supply

Tuesday, October 23, 2007

Under the initiative of the Kambengo Foundation of Rotterdam ( Netherlands ), the Kuntaur Solar Power Community Water, has been rehabilitated. As a positive response   to the recurrent water shortage, this gesture came at a time when the population were badly in need of this valuable resource.

According to Kebba Manneh, representative from the Kambengo Foundation, the whole project amounts to one hundred and eighty thousand Dalasi   (D180,000).

He went to say that the present contract is meant   to ensure the sustainability of the water tap, by including maintenance, repair and payment schedules.

He further pointed out that they will replace the two submersive pumps, and also change the two units. He then noted that this initiative constitutes a follow-up visit he made in June, in order to look into the solar installation.

For his part, Omar Touray, from Gamsolar, asserted that this new system will increase the water supply. He added that in order to sustain the system, the community should open a special Bank Account.

Ganjie Touray, Governor of the region, commended Kambengo Foundation for the laudable gesture. He seized the opportunity to put an emphasis on the importance of water in peoples’ life. Consequently, he called on the water management committee to work hand-in-hand so as to create a special fund that can assure the maintenance of the water supplier.

He challenged the committee to be steadfast in their duties, in order to avoid illegal household connections. Governor Touray urged them to pay their monthly contributions for the sustainability of the project.
