The Secretary of State for Youth and Sports, Alhagie Mass Axi Gye has cautioned the GPA Football Team to maintain their place in the elite of Gambian Football.

Secy Gye made this remark recently when officials of GPA Football Club paid a courtesy call on him in his office in Quadrangle in Banjul.

Addressing the delegation, Secy Gye revealed that for many decades now, GPA Football Club has been dominating all national teams in the Gambia.

He added when ever a national team is selected, GPA FC would have more players than any team, which is a clear manifestation of the team’s domination on Gambian Football.

Buttressing his point, Secy Gye said since old days all the GPA squad was in the National team together ranging from Alhagie Sarr, Essa Faye, Saho, Coaching Sarr, and Star Njie. Lamin Owens, Amara, Duta Keita, Kabba Ceesay to name a few as well as the past U-17 and the recent U-20 team, GPA Football club registered more players in those teams than any other club.

“Just look at the recent U-20 team, GPA team had six players in the team namely Sainey Nyassi, Sanna Nyassi, Tijan Jaiteh, Mandou Bojang, Furmus Mendy and Pa Modou Jagne,” he said.

He added that the present management of GPA team especially the technical department should make sure that they keep the momentum.

It could be recalled that Secretary Gye is a former player of GPA and up to his appointment at the helm of Gambian sports he was the President of the Club.
