The Gambia National Youth Council (NYC), has declared November 30, 2007, as the deadline for registration of youth organisations in the country.
The Gambia National Youth Council (NYC), is established by an Act of Parliament in 2000, with a mandate to monitor and coordinate all national youth programmes and activities; register youth organisations, as well as advise government on matters relating to youth.
According to reports from the NYC, all organisations operating in one or two regions should register with the Regional or Municipal Youth Committee, while those operating in three or more regions should register with National Youth Council, with an attached endorsement letter from Youth Committee Chairperson of that Region.
“The registration will help both the Youth Organisations and Council, to better plan for the physical year 2008 and in the monitoring process. Organisations or groups that fail to meet the registration deadline will be suspended from operation. Organisations or groups that fail to meet the registration deadline will be suspended from the operation. Organisations that have already registered are requested to pay their subscription within the given deadline,” NYC warned.
The NYC further gave a breakdown of the payments: The National Youth Organisations’ registration fee is D500,00, while subscription is D1000.00.
The Local Youth Organisations’ registration fee is D250.00, while subscription is D500,00.
The NYC, therefore, urged organisations to contact the National Youth Council, at the Independence Stadium, in Bakau, for further information.
