Kansala Trust Fund Committee visits Jammeh

Wednesday, November 14, 2007

The Foni Kansala Trust Fund executive, led by Hon Sheriff Abba Sanyang, yesterday paid a courtesy call on President Yahya Jammeh, at State House in order to brief him on their activities as well  as some of the problems facing the community. Speaking to this reporter, Hon Sanyang said the reason for the visit was to share goodwill with the President as a brother, a family member and also to thank him for what he is doing for the Gambian people.

“Our aims and objectives are to collectively work together and develop the country. If people come together, the outcome would be great.

In agriculture, for example, if everybody in Kansala came together, put up a big farm with a borehole and water system, cultivation would be throughout the year. The produce would be a bumper harvest and then every household in the community would benefit directly,” he said.

Hon Sanyang added that it was his idea to establish the Kansala Trust Fund, which he shared  with everybody.

“I felt like consolidating the efforts of the government. People have to come together. Individually, performance in agriculture is getting low.  We need to come together,” he concluded.

Ousman Jammeh, Secretary of State for Petroleum, Energy and Natural Resources, who doubles as the Secrtary General and Head of Civil Services, received the delegation on behalf of President Jammeh. He said the visit was a good initiative and a laudable effort.

He stated that it was good that the committee highlight their problems but was quick to assure them that the President will respond to their demands as he is a man who has good intentions for the people of this country.

Hon Paul Mendy, the National Assembly Member for Kombo South said the Kansala Trust Fund will be formed in all the districts in the Western Region. He called on President Jammeh to help the people of the area to complete their market.

He pointed out that the market will enable the women to sell their produce after harvesting.
The Chief of Foni Kansala, Momodou Lamin Jarjue, noted that the people of this country are very happy and pleased with the developments taking place in the country.

He assured President Jammeh of the fact that there is no opposition in his district, noting that there is no room for the opposition. He called on the people to pray for President Jammeh so that his dreams could be realised.
Other speakers included Mam Yassin, Ousman Colley and Ousman Jarju.
