Bakau, Banjul reach semis

Thursday, November 22, 2007

Bakau and Banjul have joined Brikama in the semi-final stages of the ongoing super nawettan competition. Bakau emerged as Group A winners on seven points, after a hard-fought win against Sukuta in last night‘s encounter played at the Serrekunda East Mini-stadium.

Goals from striker Sainey Ceesay, Pateh Nyan and Alagie Janneh saw Bakau edge past the 2004 champions, 3-2 in a fiercely contested match.

Banjul progress as group runners up after salvaging a goalless draw against the defending champions, Serrekunda East. The draw ends Serrekunda East’s hope of not only defending their title, but their record sixth zonal trophy.

Group B matches will resume today with Brikama taking on Serrekunda West at the Serrekunda East Mini-stadium.

While the Western Region giants, Brikama, have already berthed a spot in the semis, Serrekunda West will need merely a point to join them.
