The trial of the US-based Gambian journalist, Fatou Jaw Manneh, continued yesterday before the Banjul High Court.
Appearing before Justice Yemoa the state counsel, Maley Wood, informed the court that she had contacted the assistant registrar at the Banjul Magistrates Court, who informed her that the typing of the records is yet to be completed.
The judge later ordered that the records of the proceedings of both the Banjul Magistrates Court and the Kanifing Magistrates Court be produced with regard to the appeal. He stated that the court did not know the grounds of appeal because it was not on the file before the court.
The state had earlier on filed an appeal against the ruling of the Banjul Magistrates Court on the grounds of lack of jurisdiction.
The accused, Fatou Jaw Manneh, was first arraigned at the Kanifing Magistrates Court on 4th April 2007, charged on two counts of publishing false news with intent to cause alarm or fear to the society and uttering seditious words.
The case at length adjourned to the 7th December 2007.
