Hearing Begins on Tabara Samba’s Appeal Case

Thursday, December 13, 2007

Banjul High Court, presided over by Justice MM Yomoa, on Tuesday heard the appeal filed by Tabara Samba against the verdict earlier delivered in the murder case against her. The hearing is in response to the applicant’s (Tabara Samba’s) appeal against the death sentence imposed on her by the Kanifing Magistrates Court presided over by Magistrate Pa Harry Jammeh, following her conviction on the crime of murder.

The applicant’s counsel, Lawyer Amie Joof-Conteh, informed the court that she would present new evidence on the appeal by way of an affidavit, which she would file before court.

The state counsel, Merely Wood, confirmed to the court that they have been served with the record of proceedings from the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court.

It could be recalled that Tabara Samba was recently convicted and sentenced to death for murdering her late husband, Mr. Ebrima Nyan, early this year.

She recently responded by filing an appeal at the Banjul High Court against the sentence.

The case was adjourned to 19th December 2007 for continuation.
