The Ambassador of the Republic of China on Taiwan, Dr Patrick Chang, last Friday presented medical items worth US $20,000 to the Department of State for Health on behalf of the Taiwan International Cooperation and Development Fund (Taiwan ICDF).
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, held at the Department of State for Health and Social Welfare, Ambassador Chang said the items would be used by the visiting Taiwan mobile medical mission station at Sulayman Junkung Jammeh Hospital and at AFPRC hospitals in Bwiam and Farafenni respectively. He said that the team is being sent, along with the medical items, to provide medical service to Gambians.
He further revealed that at the end of the mission, the medical team would hand over the left over items to the two hospitals. “We hope more of this kind would be presented”, he said.
The Taiwanese envoy said the gesture is part of their continuing support for The Gambia’s health sector.
In receiving the materials, Dr Malick Njie, Secretary of State for Health and Social Welfare, thanked Dr Chang for the humanitarian gesture. He described the move as another indication of the cordial relationship which exists between Taiwan and The Gambia.
Mrs. Markien Janneh Kaira, Acting chief Pharmacist at the National Pharmaceutical Service, chaired the meeting. Present at the ceremony were Mr. Lee and Mr. Lu both first Secretaries at the Taiwanese Embassy.
