Two cheques amounting to D11 million, were on Wednesday presented to Fatou Lamin Faye, Secretary of State for Basic and Secondary Education by Dr Patrick Chang, Taiwanese Ambassador to The Gambia. The sum - presented in two separate cheques: US$496,160 and US$70,000 - is the last payment to complete work at Mayok Senior Secondary School in Western Region.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony at the state department for education, the Taiwanese diplomatic chief in Banjul, who was beaming with happiness in presenting the final payment, emphasised the importance The Gambia government attaches to education.
Ambassador Chang thumbed-up the Armed and Security Engineering Company of the Gambia Armed Forces for a marvellous work at the project site.

The Basic and Secondary Education Secretary of State, Fatou Lamin Faye, lauded the bilateral ties between Banjul and Taipei, saying that it has impacted on the national development process. SoS Faye said the project deadline (in May) suffered delay because of relevant adjustments on the site. With the availability of resources, she said, work at the project site will be accelerated to completion.

The SoS commended the Taiwanese Embassy and the government of Taiwan for contributing to government’s efforts in bringing education to the doorstep of Gambians.
Lt Colonel Biran Saine, Chief of The Gambia National Guard, deputised for Brigadier General Lang Tombong Tamba.
