Bakau - Banjul derby final shifted

Tuesday, December 4, 2007
The Zonal Football Championship final between two bitter rivals - Bakau and Banjul was rescheduled by the organisers after Sunday’s fiercely contested final at the Serrekunda East Mini-stadium failed to produce a winner.

The City Boys, however, counted themselves lucky having come from two goals down to force the mouth-watery cracker to a 2-2 score line.

Sainey Ceesay gave Bakau and early lead in the 5th minute before versatile Alagie Sanneh doubled the advantage 15 minutes later.

The City Boys, buoyed up by their enthusiastic travelling supporters, later rallied and their price paid off in the 26th minutes when skipper Ebrima Sonko pulled a goal before the first interval collapsed.

Fresh from break, Alagie Musa capitalised on defensive a mix-up at Bakau goal mouth to slot in Banjul’s second and the fourth goal of the night.

The two sides, who have had a long history of intense rivalry, will now square-up against each again on Sunday, December 9, at the same venue, as fans of both sides anticipate all but another exciting cracker that will decide the destiny of the coveted trophy and a cash prize of D25,000.
