Roots nursery school inaugurated

Roots Nursery School, Sponsored by a charitable organisation in UK called ‘Friends Of Fajikunda’ was on Sunday inaugurated at a ceremony held in Fajikunda.

In his welcoming remarks, Alpha Jarju, Assistant head Teacher of the school said, the purpose of establishing the nursery school is geared towards providing early childhood education to the children of Fajikunda and its environment, noting that, ‘Good Foundation for Better Future’ is the motto of the school. Mr. Jarju thanked the UK Charitable Organisation for supporting the school over the past seven years.

For his part, Malamin Sanneh the Head Teacher of the School, gave a brief overview of the school and noted that, it was founded and registered in September 1997, by Four trained facilitators in Early Childhood Care and Development at the Gambia College under the Department of State for Education (DOSE), in Collaboration with the community of Fajikunda and its environment respectively. He added that, according to the last population and housing census, Fajikunda ward has 26,616 people, it’s about 13 kilometers from Banjul.

Mr. Sanneh explained the functions of the nursery, in that, it has been running four (4) classes within a rented premise since its inception, he revealed that, The building used was not designed for learning purpose but, “we however, managed to change the structure suite for conducting classes within 4 rooms, whilst the other one is used for an office’’ adding that there are 30-35 students in each class room, all between the ages of 3-7, coupled with two certified teachers in Early Childhood Development (ECD) course.

The occasion was graced by school children, Mbemba Gassama Fajikunda Ward Councilor, Friends Of Fajikunda delegates from the UK, Evelyn Ndow-president of Early Child Educators, Sainey Gibba Secretary General of Early Child Education (ECE), who chaired the occasion.
