Carema Healthcare, a leading healthcare organisation in Sweden, donated on Wednesday various equipment and other items to the Banjulinding Health Centre.

The equipment included a new generator that can provide 24-hour electricity supply each day to the health centre, and a complete set of football jerseys for the football teams in Banjulinding.

Mr Kawsu K. Bojang, Officer-in-Charge of the Banjulinding Health Centre, said: “It is indeed a great moment for us as we stand once again to receive such a wonderful offer from our sincere friends of Carema.”

He said that providing quality healthcare services to the people of The Gambia had been the top priority of the current government through the Department of State for Health and Social welfare.

“Recently a roadmap was drawn to guide the department and its partners towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals on maternal and child mortality by 75% by the year 2015,” he said.

A five-year plan based on the roadmap had been developed, he noted, saying: “A key component of the plan is to improve the quality of care at the various health facilities. Good record keeping is significant to the maintenance of high quality care.”

He therefore appealed for more assistance from Carema Healthcare towards the country’s effort in achieving the MDGs by 2015, adding that the donated items would be used wisely.

Aji Sirrah Faye, the Chairperson of the Banjulinding Community, thanked the donors for the gesture.

She also commended the Alkalo of Banjulinding for his commitment and service to the people.
