As hearings into the D19 million sagas at the Kanilai Family Farm continues, more witnesses testified before Magistrate Pa Harry Jammeh of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court.
Amadou Camara, a police corporal in his evidence-in-chief yesterday told the court that while he was posted at the Serious Crime Unit of the Police Headquarters in Banjul on January 29th 2007, he met the accused persons: Aziz Tamba, Mustapha Bojang and Famara Colley.
He said he had dialogue with Famara Colley before he obtained cautionary and voluntary statements from him.
According to him, prior to obtaining statements from the accused persons, he told them about the nature of the crime committed.
Thereafter, he said, Famara Colley told him that he was brought to the company, through the assistance of Aziz Tamba and Mustapha Bojang, without any formal appointment letter.
According to corporal Camara, Famara Colley also told him that on the day of his appointment there was a consignment of rice at the Ports, some of which were taken to his warehouse in Kanifing.
Colley added that some trucks were loaded with rice to other places which he does not have any knowledge of.
Furthermore, the witness said that Mr. Colley told him that the proceeds of the rice are normally kept in a safe in his office, which is later deposited at the Bank.
He said the accused Famara Colley also indicated that Aziz Tamba would normally come to him and request for certain amount of money under the pretext that it is a request made by the President. “And if he (Farama) request for a written document to that effect, Aziz would tell him that he was in a hurry and he will do that later’, he explained.
According to corporal Camara, the accused Mr Colley has categorically denied knowledge of the missing money.
Magistrate Jammeh at this juncture, discharged the witness and then adjourned the case.
