The Department of State for Local Government and Lands (DoSLG&L), has issued an ultimatum to owners of kiosks, sign boards and bill boards, along Kairaba Avenue, Kombo Sillah Drive, Mamadi Manjang Highway, Sayerr Jobe Avenue in the (KM); Wellington Street and Independence Drive in Banjul to remove them by Friday, March 9.
According to the State Department, the move is intended to maintain the aesthetic view of the roads. DoSLG&L also confirmed the formation of a taskforce on the exercise.
The Department warned that any failure to comply will result in the removal of such kiosks and bill boards and a cost charge on the owners.
The full text of the report reads: “The general public is hereby informed that the Department of State for Local Government and Lands has observed with grave concern that our major roads are proliferated with kiosks, bill boards and sign boards of all types and sizes, thus destroying the beautiful look of our roads.
As a result, a task force has been formed to look into the matter critically and make recommendations.”
“In the light of the above, allocation and erection of kiosks and bill boards have been suspended until further notice.
In order to maintain the aesthetic view of our roads, the task force is calling on the owners of such kiosks, sign boards and bill boards ,along Kairaba Avenue, Kombo Sillah Drive, Mamadi Manjang Highway, Sayerr Jobe Avenue in the Kanifing Municipality, Wellington Street and Independence Drive in Banjul to remove them on or before Friday 9th of March 2007.
Failure to comply with this notice will result in the removal of such kiosks and bill boards and the cost of such removal charge will be on the owners.”
