The Barrow Kunda Beakanyang Kafo, a registered community- based organisation in the Upper River Region, last Monday distributed school uniforms and over 300 pencils to its sponsored orphans in Barrow Kunda Lower Basic and Madrasa schools.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony at Barrow Kunda Lower Basic School grounds, Mr. Nfamara Jawneh, Coordinator of Beakanyang Orphans Care project, reiterated his organisation’s commitment to complement government’s efforts in the areas of education, health and agriculture.
Mr. Jawneh used the occasion to encourage parents in the village to keep sending their children to school, noting that education is the key to development.
“For the teachers ,we know you can deliver up to expectations as you already have the experience, knowledge and skills to impart knowledge and good morals to these children. If you fail to do so, you would not be doing justice to the children, the parents from whose money you are paid and the government who employed you. History will not forgive you if you fail to deliver,” Jawneh told teachers at Barrow Kunda. He also admonished children to also respect their teachers at all times.
He appealed to government departments, NGOs and philanthropists to help his organisation with funds for the realisation of the noble objective of the project.
Mr. Jawneh expressed gratitude to the People’s Bureau of the Great Socialist People’s Libyan Arab Jamahiriyaa in The Gambia for enabling us provide the uniforms to the orphans.
“For H.E, Taher S. Daloub, Ag.Libyan Ambassador to The Gambia and Mr Lotfi H.Zlitni, Libyan Consular in Banjul, I say thanks for the support. We are most grateful to you for the support,” he noted. He assured the two schools of his organisation’s continued support.
Deputizing for the regional education director for Region Six, Cluster Monitor for Wuli West, Mr Yunusa Manneh, applauded Beakanyang for the intervention.
He advised children to be disciplined, punctual and regular in schools and encouraged them to take their learning seriously.
Mr. Arfang Jawneh and Ostass Sanyang of Barrow Kunda Lower Basic and Madrasa schools all thanked Beakanyang for the ‘kind’ gesture.
Speaking earlier, the Alkalo of Barrow Kunda, Foday Barrow, prayed for the organisation for their continued support to the village.
Other speakers on the occasion include Lamin Jango Danjo and Mamadi Sidibeh who praised Beakanyang for the humanitarian gesture. Mr Danjo appealed to the organisation to expand their activities to the neighboring villages.
Mr.Tumani Danjo, President of Beakanyang, chaired the occasion which was attended by the cross-section of the Barrow Kunda community.
