Thursday, April 26, 2007
The Department of State for Social Welfare recently held a national conference that aims to scrutinise and adopt the draft national strategic plan of action on orphans and vulnerable children.

The conference, which was held at the Corinthia Atlantic Hotel in Banjul, brought together children, adults, parliamentarians, government officials and other stakeholders. The national strategic plan of action is geared towards the promotion and protection of the rights of orphans and vulnerable children in The Gambia.

Speaking at the occasion, Mrs Fanta Bai Secka, Director of Social Welfare, said the plan of action or document will clearly set out the vision and dream of OVCs in The Gambia.

“It is also a document that challenges all parents, families, communities, government and development partners,” she concluded.
