Dr Aja Isatou Njie-Saidy, Vice President and Secretary of State for Women’s Affairs yesterday received the Executive Committee of the Comrade Ebou Madi Sillah Memorial Foundation at her office in the State House in Banjul.
Speaking to journalists shortly after their meeting with the Vice President Njie-Saidy, Baaba Sillah, an executive member, said the foundation was born out the initiative of friends of Ebou Sillah and the backing of his family.

According to him, the basic principle of the foundation is to perpetuate Ebou’s Legacy for eternity by establishing in his honour a foundation to preserve and protect his work and to encourage young and talented artists especially those at schools and other institutions of learning in order to create the conditions through which they can augment their skills, knowledge and attitudes so that they can control back the frontiers of the arts in The Gambia.

“The foundation has gotten off to a good start. It has won the hearts and support of a cross-section of The Gambian community, both at home and abroad, non-governmental organisations, the expatriate community, private enterprises and private voluntary organisations,” he said.

He added that the main plans of the foundation for the coming year are to extend the exhibitions to Gambians in the diaspora and to the lovers of art in the sub-region and beyond. “Among our projects are to set up a Museum cum Art Gallery at an ideal location, possibly at the Tourism Development Area where the foundation hopes to establish a strategic Permanent Operations base.”
