Over 200 youths and students from various schools in The Gambia on Thursday took part in a march-past from the July 22nd Square to the National Assembly in Banjul to present a declaration on road safety to the country’s lawmakers.
The programme was organised with the assistance of Shell Marketing Gambia Limited, the UN, the World Health Organisation and Vinasha Productions.
Presenting the declaration to the Majority Leader of the National Assembly, the Hon. Speaker of the Youth Parliament, Lamin F. Bojang, said he was optimistic that the National Assembly would consider making the declaration a law that would help in accelerating the campaign to curb road accident. Receiving the declaration, the Majority Leader of the National Assembly, Hon. Fabakary Tombong-Jatta, assured the youth that the National Assembly would do everything possible to debate on the issue and adopt it as a law to curb road accident in The Gambia.
The programme was part of a weeklong campaign on road safety to mark the UN Road Safety Week sponsored by Shell Marketing Gambia Ltd in collaboration with the Government of The Gambia and the World Health Organisation.
