Tourism Career Day in schools was last Wednesday officially launched at St Augustine’s Senior Secondary School by the Gambia Tourism Authority.
Speaking at the ceremony, Martin Gomez, Principal of St Augustine Senior Secondary School, described the forum as vital for students and urged them to disseminate the information gathered. He revealed that the GTA has offered a two-day visit to Makasutu Cultural Forest and Palm Beach Hotel to the best two outstanding students of his school.
For his part, Amadou Ceesay, Director of Tourism Human Resource Development at GTA, said the first tourism product is the human resource, as it encourages tourist to stay in the country. He appealed to students to do away with “bumsing” for it acts as a hindrance to tourism development in the country.
Lamin Saho, Director of Marketing at GTA, defined the role of his department describing it as the agency responsible for selling the country in the tourism market around the globe.
Other speakers at the ceremony included, Modou Lamin Jobe of the Gambia Hoteliers Association, Adama Bah, Director of Asset, Demba EM Sanneh of the National Council for Arts & Culture and Burama Jammeh of the Department of State for Education
