Some of the convicted coup plotters of the 21 March 2006 abortive coup have filed an appeal against their sentences, while others are just about to do so.
A judicial source confirmed that their lawyer had already lodged an appeal with the Appeal Court to overturn the sentences the court-martial had handed down to their clients. No date has been fixed yet for the hearing of the case.
The convicted officers are Capt. Bunja Darboe, Capt Yaya Darboe, Capt Wassa Camara and 2ndLt Pharing Sanyang who were sentenced to life imprisonment.
The others are Capt. Abdoukarim Jah and Lt Momodou Alieu Bah who bagged 25years on each of the two counts they were charged with, but the sentences run concurrently.
But Capt Pierre Mendy, Corporal Samba Bah, Lance Corporal Babou Janha and Private Alagie Nying each picked up 10 years imprisonment in each count and the sentence runs concurrently.
They were sentenced on 19 April 2007.
