Plymouth Banjul Challenge and the National Interdepartmental Sports Association (NISA) yesterday presented cheques of D150, 000 and D10, 000 respectively to the Secretary of State for Youth, Sports and Religious Affairs as their contribution to Operation Canada 2007.
Speaking at the Presentation Ceremony Jerry Mitchell said that Plymouth Banjul Challenge is not only focused on Tourism and Small-Scale development but also has a special interest in sports development.
She noted that the donation is in line with the principles of the organisation by donating to the U-20, which has given the Gambia lot of glory at the International level.
For his part, Pa Modou Faal, Public Relation Officer of NISA said that the donation to the team is geared towards fulfilling the social responsibility of NISA by contributing positively to the socio-economic development of the country and also to complement government efforts in sports development.
Bakary Darboe, NISA first vice president pointed out that the main aim of the Association is to unify companies both in public and private sector in the area of sports.
Receiving the cheques, the Secretary of State for Youth, Sports and Religious Affairs, Sheikh Omar Faye commended the two organisations for answering to the call of the president by contributing their quota towards national development.
He called on other institutions and philanthropist to come on board as it is not late to donate to the Operation Canada initiative.
