Ismaila Sambou, Secretary of State for Local Government and Lands, has confirmed that the compounds affected in Half-Die, as a result of the Ports Expansion Project, will be re-located to a new site allocated to them by the Gambia Ports Authority.
He made this revelation on Wednesday whilst responding to a parliamentary question from the member for Banjul South, Baboucarr S Nyang, on when the people of Half-die will be re-located to the new site allocated to them by the Gambia Ports Authority.
According to him, the demarcation of the layout earmarked for the relocation of those compounds affected in Half-Die, Banjul, as a result of the Ports Expansion Project has been completed. He noted that at the moment the technical committee of the task force which is constituted to oversee the relocation of those compounds has completed the sensitisation of those affected and negotiations on the modalities for monetary compensation will commence very soon.
SoS Sambou added that this will be followed by the issuance of allocation letters to the affected compound owners. He added that the actual relocation will be six months from the date of issuance of allocation letters.
On the allocation of a new site to Shell Company around the Sitting Corner, SoS Sambou clearly stated that, his Department of State is not aware of the allocation of a new site to Shell Company at the area.
