Girl, 3, Needs Overseas Treatment

Thursday, June 21, 2007

Maimuna Sey, a three-year-old girl, is seeking help for overseas treatment from government, the private sector, NGOs and individuals.

Maimuna is suffering from a ventricular septal defect of about 1.18cm left ventricular hypertrophy with a hyperactive heart, according to medical reports from both Lamtoro Medical Centre and the Royal Victoria Teaching Hospital (RVTH).

"Given that extended paediatric cardiac surgical service is not available in the sub-region and the worthwhile favourable outcome, it is exigent for Maimuna to proceed overseas for a timely reconstructive cardiac surgery to prevent a progression to complications such as irreversible pulmonary hypertension and sudden death," the report dated 23 February 2007 said.

According to Maimuna’s father, Malick Sey, a police officer, the family could not afford the cost of the overseas treatment. They are therefore pleading with and seeking the intervention of the President and the public to come to their aid to save the life of the little girl.

Those who want to assist can call the following numbers: 7784854, 6557102, 9743047.
