Frustration Mounts Over Kemo Saho’s Trial

Monday, August 13, 2007

Frustration is apparently building up in the relatives of one Kemo Saho as he continues to languish at the State Central Prison in Banjul with no end in sight to his trial.

Kemo Saho was charged with violently assaulting one of the imams of Farato village with a cutlass but his trial has been dragging on for almost a year now due largely to the absence of his lawyers from court proceedings.

Some of his relations, who thronged the Brikama Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday to witness his trial, were frustrated and exasperated when the case was once again adjourned that one of them pointed an umbrella at defense counsel Borry Touray to vent his displeasure. The umbrella-pointing relative was of the view that counsel Borry Touray was seemingly lukewarm about their relation’s case.

Displeased by this, Counsel Touray dashed back to the courtroom to express his decision of withdrawing from the case but was placated by magistrate Edrisa Mbai who appealed to him to continue representing Kemo against all odds.

Kemo is expected back in court on August 14, 2007.
