Five youths from diverse places in The Gambia would be soon put on trial over various allegations of drug-related offences.
Ismaila Daffeh, Modou Sarr, Momodou Sallah, Kalifa Jammeh and Bala Jiddeh would now be tried by the Brikama Magistrates’ Court in Western Region following their apprehension by men from National Drug Enforcement Agency, NDEA, on suspicion of dealing in illegal drugs.
The five youths were recently arraigned on charges of being found in possession of cannabis sativa for the purpose of trafficking in contravention of section 43 (4) of the Drug Control Act of 2003 as amended.
According to the details of the alleged offences, Momodou Sallah was found in possession of 53k and 40g of cannabis sativa whilst Bala Jiddeh was found in possession of 23k and 220g of marijuana. Ismaila Daffeh, whose previous court bail was revoked and now placed in state custody, was alleged to have been found with 4g of cannabis whilst Modou Sarr was allegedly found in possession of 40g of marijuana. Kalifa Daffeh was said to have been found in possession of 5k and 280g of the same dope.
They all denied the allegations leveled against them and would return to court soon for the opening of their cases for trial.
The cases would be presided over by magistrate Edrissa Mbai and NDEA would be represented by Abdoulie Ceesay.
